Integrated Microfluidic System for Cell-Free DNA Extraction from Plasma for Mutant Gene Detection and Quantification

Yu-Hung Cheng et al.

Summary: Ovarian cancer is one of the most severe gynecologic cancers with asymptomatic early stages. This study developed an integrated microfluidic chip that can extract cfDNA from plasma, detect and quantify mutations in the OvCa biomarker BRCA1. By automating the cfDNA extraction and qPCR processes, this chip can be used for clinical screening of OvCa-associated mutations.

A Portable Microfluidic System for Point-of-Care Detection of Multiple Protein Biomarkers

Nan Li et al.

Summary: A portable microfluidic system was established for point-of-care detection of multiple protein biomarkers, combining a protein microarray and a microfluidic cassette. The system automatically conducted immunoassays for alpha-fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, and carcinoma antigen 125 within 40 minutes, with good correlations to results from a commercial instrument. This versatile platform shows great potential for rapid and sensitive multiplexed detection of biomarkers in POC diagnostics.
