A nonlocal strain gradient analysis of laminated composites and sandwich nanoplates using meshfree approach

Chien H. Thai et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a nonlocal strain gradient meshfree plate approach for the bending and free vibration analyses of laminated composite and sandwich nanoplates. The deflection and natural frequency of the plates are significantly influenced by the nonlocal and strain gradient parameters. The results show that both models coincide when the nonlocal and strain gradient parameters are taken as zero.

Vibration analysis of a cylindrical shell by using strain gradient theory via a moving Kriging interpolation-based meshfree method

Dongchang Hou et al.

Summary: The strain gradient theory is applied to investigate the vibration characteristics of a thin-walled cylindrical shell. An energy equation involving both in-plane displacements and out-plane deflections is constructed, and a meshfree discretization scheme is adopted. The study shows that the natural frequencies evaluated by strain gradient elasticity theory are lower than those of the classical model, indicating the significant influence of size effect on the vibration of the shell. Furthermore, the mesh-free moving Kriging interpolation method is found to have high precision and stability in dealing with strain gradient cylindrical shells.

Nonlocal thermal buckling and postbuckling of functionally graded graphene nanoplatelet reinforced piezoelectric micro-plate

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the nonlocal thermal buckling and postbuckling behaviors of a multi-layered graphene nanoplatelet reinforced piezoelectric micro-plate. The effects of external voltage, distribution and characteristic of graphene, and nonlocal parameter on the critical buckling behaviors and postbuckling equilibrium path are numerically analyzed.

Flexural behaviour and cost effectiveness of layered UHPC-NC composite beams

Yujie Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a pilot numerical study on the flexural performance of layered UHPC-NC beams. The study discusses the effects of bonding, material proportion, and mechanical properties on the flexural behavior of the beams. The results show that the interfacial bonding between UHPC and NC layers significantly affects the flexural behavior of the beams.

Nanoindentation and Mechanical Properties of Materials at Submicro- and Nanoscale Levels: Recent Results and Achievements

Yu. I. Golovin

Summary: This review delves into the mechanical behavior of various materials at submicro- and nanoscale levels, focusing on the broad interpretation of force nanomechanical testing, including measurement under various forces and deformation types with nanometer resolution. It highlights the advancements in experimental approaches for studying single-, micro-, and nanocrystalline materials, composites, films, and coatings, with particular attention to size effects and atomic deformation/fracture mechanisms at the nanoscale.
