Banana Fiber Degumming by Alkali Treatment and Ultrasonic Methods

Collins Twebaze et al.

Summary: This study successfully removed wax, lignin, hemicellulose, and other impurities from banana fiber through alkali pre-treatment and ultrasounds, significantly increasing the cellulose content and crystallinity of the fiber. The ultra-sonicated fiber exhibited improved mechanical properties and morphological structure, indicating great potential for high-quality fiber applications.

A new Enzolv process for simultaneous delignification and lignin-derived chemical production from the woody biomass of Melia dubia

Iniya Kumar Muniraj et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to develop a new green process for the simultaneous depolymerization and valorization of lignin into high-value chemicals to meet the requirements of lignocellulosic biorefinery. A new Enzolv process using thermosolvent stable laccase (LccH) was developed for the delignification of Melia dubia woody biomass, resulting in the generation of high-value chemicals.

Effect of pretreatment conditions on the chemical-structural characteristics of coconut and palm kernel shell: A potentially valuable precursor for eco-efficient activated carbon production

C. L. Lee et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of acid, alkali, and water pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass to explore palm kernel shell and coconut shell as sustainable alternatives to commercial coal-based activated carbon. Pretreatment temperature and time significantly affect the chemical-structural characteristics of CS and PKS, as well as their adsorption capacity for methylene blue and iodine.

Pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass: A review on recent advances

Akshay R. Mankar et al.

Summary: Depleting fossil reserves and increasing energy needs have raised the demand for alternative and clean energy sources. Utilizing lignocellulosic biomass for pretreatment has provided the impetus for developing economic and eco-friendly large scale biorefinery applications. New pretreatment approaches, such as milling, extrusion, microwave, ammonia fibre explosion, and eutectic solvents, are being explored for sustainable technologies in modern biorefineries.
