Whole genome sequencing diagnostic yield for paediatric patients with suspected genetic disorders: systematic review, meta-analysis, and GRADE assessment

Mario Cesare Nurchis et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of whole genome sequencing (WGS) for diagnosing suspected genetic disorders in the pediatric population. The results show that WGS has a higher diagnostic yield compared to whole exome sequencing (WES) and usual care. However, further research is needed to assess the cost, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of WGS.

'We Should View Him as an Individual': The Role of the Child's Future Autonomy in Shared Decision-Making About Unsolicited Findings in Pediatric Exome Sequencing

W. Dondorp et al.

Summary: Respect for the future autonomy of children is crucial in discussions about genetic testing and pediatric exome sequencing. Consideration should be given to the child's future or emerging autonomy when making decisions, with professionals actively ensuring these factors are taken into account. A directive approach may be necessary to shape the roles of parents and professionals as responsible care-givers, prioritizing the child's future or emerging autonomy.
