Effect of Broussonetia papyrifera leaf meal on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and gut health status of growing rabbits

Kunliang Han et al.

Summary: The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of Broussonetia papyrifera leaf meal (BP) on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, intestinal permeability, and caecal microbiota of growing rabbits. The results showed that adding BP had no significant effect on the growth performance of rabbits. However, it reduced the serum diamine oxidase content and increased the jejunal secretory immunoglobulin A content. The addition of BP also influenced the abundance of caecal microbiota.

High-Condensed Tannin Diet and Transportation Stress in Goats: Effects on Physiological Responses, Gut Microbial Counts and Meat Quality

Phaneendra Batchu et al.

Summary: The pre-slaughter management of goats can impact their welfare, productivity, and product quality. Including high-condensed tannin ingredients in the diet and minimizing stress can improve meat quality and safety in goats. This study found that transportation stress influenced physiological responses but did not affect muscle pH, while feeding sericea hay to goats improved anti-inflammatory properties and reduced gut microbial counts without changing meat quality characteristics.

Supplementing rabbit diets with butylated hydroxyanisole affects oxidative stress, growth performance, and meat quality (Publication with Expression of Concern. See vol. 16, 2022) (Publication with Expression of Concern. See vol. 17, 2023)

T. Imbabi et al.

Summary: The study found that supplementing lower doses of dietary BHA can promote growth and meat quality in rabbits by maintaining redox balance. The range of 50-100 mg/kg may be considered a safe and effective feed additive as well as an attenuator of oxidative stress.
