Lipid transfer protein, OsLTPL18, is essential for grain weight and seed germination in rice

Yangyang Li et al.

Summary: Nonspecific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) play important roles in the intermembrane transportation of phospholipids, fatty acids, and steroids, but their potential functions in rice have not been well elucidated. This study analyzed the functions of OsLTPL18 using CRISPR/Cas9 strategy and cytological analysis, and found that OsLTPL18 has coordinating functions in regulation of grain weight and germination in rice.

The OsmiRNA166b-OsHox32 pair regulates mechanical strength of rice plants by modulating cell wall biosynthesis

Hong Chen et al.

Summary: The plant cell wall provides mechanical strength to support plant growth and development, with its biosynthesis regulated by the OsmiR166b-OsHox32 module. Overexpression of miR166b or silencing of OsHox32 leads to increased cell wall thickness and enhanced mechanical strength of culms. The OsmiR166b-OsHox32 pair plays vital roles in plant growth, development, and architecture by regulating cell wall-related gene expression.

ENLARGED STARCH GRAIN1 affects amyloplast development and starch biosynthesis in rice endosperm

Rongqi Wang et al.

Summary: The rice floury mutant esg1 has decreased starch content, altered starch physicochemical properties, and larger starch grain size, mainly due to an increased number of starch granules per grain. The ESG1 gene encodes a protein affecting starch grain development and biosynthesis in rice.
