Recent advances in understanding thermomorphogenesis signaling

Carolin Delker et al.

Summary: Plants have the ability to adjust their morphology and development in response to environmental stimuli, a phenomenon known as phenotypic plasticity. In Arabidopsis thaliana, the morphological response to elevated temperatures, termed thermomorphogenesis, is largely regulated by the transcription factor PIF4, which is in turn influenced by various thermosensing mechanisms and modulators. Recent advances have identified factors that affect PIF4 expression and activity, and have shed light on organ- and tissue-specific regulation of thermomorphogenesis.

Roles of Brassinosteroids in Mitigating Heat Stress Damage in Cereal Crops

Aishwarya Kothari et al.

Summary: Heat stress leads to significant losses in cereal crops and increasing tolerance to high temperatures is necessary for food security. Fine-tuning the action of plant hormones like brassinosteroids can enhance cereal tolerance to heat stress and maintain yields. Understanding the interactions between heat stress responses, growth processes, and hormone signaling can help optimize cereal growth in challenging environments.

Ubiquitin-specific proteases UBP12 and UBP13 promote shade avoidance response by enhancing PIF7 stability

Yu Zhou et al.

Summary: Changes in light quality due to neighbor proximity regulate plant growth processes, with PIF7 playing a central role in connecting shade light perception and growth responses. UBP12 and UBP13 are identified as positive regulators in shade avoidance responses, maintaining PIF7 stability and abundance through deubiquitination.

XBAT31 regulates thermoresponsive hypocotyl growth through mediating degradation of the thermosensor ELF3 in Arabidopsis

Lin Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: The E3 ligase XBAT31 has been identified as a key regulator in mediating the degradation of ELF3 in response to warm temperature in Arabidopsis. XBAT31 interacts with ELF3, ubiquitinates it, and promotes degradation via the 26S proteasome, affecting temperature signaling and plant thermomorphogenesis. Additionally, XBAT31-mediated ELF3 degradation is dependent on the B-box protein BBX18, revealing a complex regulatory mechanism in response to ambient temperature changes.

The INO80 chromatin remodeling complex promotes thermomorphogenesis by connecting H2A.Z eviction and active transcription in Arabidopsis

Mande Xue et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the INO80 chromatin remodeling complex promotes thermomorphogenesis and activates expression of thermoresponsive and auxin-related genes. INO80 associates with PIF4, a regulator of thermomorphogenesis, and mediates temperature-induced H2A.Z eviction at PIF4 targets. Additionally, INO80 interacts with COMPASS-like and transcription elongation factors to promote active histone modification, leading to thermal induction of transcription.

Opinion Timing to grow: roles of clock in thermomorphogenesis

Lin-Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: Plants coordinate their growth and development with changes in temperature through a process termed thermomorphogenesis. The circadian clock plays a crucial role in regulating thermoresponsive hypocotyl growth, especially through the action of evening complex (EC). Research focuses on understanding the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of how EC transduces temperature signals to key integrators like PIF4 in thermomorphogenesis.
