Fabrication of a transparent, flame retardant, and antimicrobial epoxy resin by a novel phosphorus-containing Schiff base molecule

Yifang Hua et al.

Summary: A flame retardant (DPPVA) was synthesized through a Schiff-base reaction, and it improved the thermal stability, flame retardancy, and antibacterial activity of the cured epoxy resin (EP). The EP/4% DPPVA sample showed good results in terms of flame retardancy, with reduced heat release rate, smoke production, and increased char residue. Additionally, it exhibited effective repellence to bacteria. The addition of 4% DPPVA to EP slightly decreased the impact strength, but it was still acceptable for industrial scenarios.
