Arsenic adsorption by low-cost laterite column: Long-term experiments and dynamic column modeling

Thi Hai Nguyen et al.

Summary: In this study, a natural laterite adsorbent from Vietnam was investigated for its potential application in removing arsenic contamination from drinking water supplies. The adsorbent exhibited good adsorption capacity for arsenic and the study also developed a model to predict the adsorption performance in column experiments and filters.

Recovery of water and valuable metals using low pressure nanofiltration and sequential adsorption from acid mine drainage

Charith Fonseka et al.

Summary: This study successfully achieved the recovery of freshwater and valuable metals such as rare earth elements and copper from synthetic acid mine drainage using low pressure nanofiltration and adsorption techniques. The findings highlight the potential of using powdered eggshell as a low-cost adsorbent for organic matter removal. Selective recovery of rare earth elements and copper was achieved through the use of modified metal organic frameworks and amine-grafted mesoporous silica materials.

Selective recovery and separation of rare earth elements by organophosphorus modified MIL-101(Cr)

Vitalii Kavun et al.

Summary: The study synthesized a metal-organic framework derivative modified with organophosphorus compounds to enhance adsorption efficiency for rare earth elements in aqueous solutions. The derivatives showed improved adsorption capacity for Er3+ at optimal conditions, with exceptional selectivity and stability demonstrated throughout multiple cycles. The adsorption mechanism was attributed to the formation of coordinative complexes between the modifiers' functional groups and Er3+ ions.

Selective Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from Mine Ore by Cr-MIL Metal-Organic Frameworks

Charith Fonseka et al.

Summary: A novel chromium-based metal-organic framework modified with PMIDA was synthesized for selectively recovering europium from complex zinc ore leachate. The adsorbent exhibited high selectivity and structural stability for potential industrial applications in rare earth element recovery.

Continuous and selective copper recovery by multi-modified and granulated SBA-15

SeongChul Ryu et al.

Summary: The mesoporous silica material SBA-15 was synthesized via hydrothermal reaction and successfully modified with manganese loading and amine-grafting to enhance the adsorption capacity and selectivity for copper ions; although the adsorption capacities decreased after granulation, the GMN-SBA material showed good regeneration and separation performance in continuous fixed-bed column adsorption mode; the dynamic adsorption model with linear driving force approximation (LDFA) explained well the fixed-bed adsorption results, showing high affinity of copper towards GMN-SBA compared to other heavy metals in multi-component adsorption.
