Hao Liang et al.

Summary: The p-Cymene ruthenium(II) complex is widely used in C-H activation, but enantioselective C-H activation promoted by arene ruthenium(II) complexes has only recently been achieved. Various strategies including nitrene C-H insertion, chiral transient directing groups, chiral carboxylic acid, relay catalysis, and chiral arene ligands are summarized and discussed in this minireview, with the aim of inspiring further developments.

Phosphine oxide directing-group-enabled atroposelective C-H bond acyloxylation via an eight-membered palladacycle intermediate

Peng-Bo Bai et al.

Summary: Here, we present the first atroposelective acyloxylation of a C(sp2)-H bond using a phosphine oxide directing group. Surprisingly, this reaction proceeds via an eight-membered palladacycle intermediate instead of the more favored five-membered palladacycle. Additionally, we found that L-pGlu-OH, a readily available chiral amino acid derivative, is the best chiral ligand for promoting this atroposelective remote C-H functionalization reaction.

Atropisomers beyond the C-C axial chirality: Advances in catalytic asymmetric synthesis

Guang-Jian Mei et al.

Summary: Atropisomers beyond the C-C axis have become important additions to the field of axially chiral compounds. Previously considered challenging, these atropisomers characterized by C-N, C-O, C-B, or N-N bonds have been found to possess stable axially chiral frameworks due to their shorter bond lengths and electron-repelling effects. Recent years have seen rapid progress in this emerging area, with various catalytic approaches being reported for their efficient synthesis. These X-Y axially chiral compounds are valuable molecules that can be utilized as ligands or catalysts in asymmetric catalysis or evaluated for their potential biological activities. The chemistry of atropisomers beyond C-C axial chirality is believed to hold an important position in organic chemistry and beyond.

Atroposelective synthesis of N-aryl peptoid atropisomers via a palladium(ii)-catalyzed asymmetric C-H alkynylation strategy

Yong-Jie Wu et al.

Summary: The study presents an efficient synthesis of various N-aryl peptoid atropisomers with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities using palladium-catalyzed asymmetric C-H alkynylation, with l-pyroglutamic acid as a chiral ligand. The exceptional compatibility with different peptoid oligomers makes this procedure valuable for peptoid modifications. Computational studies suggest that the amino acid ligand distortion controls the enantioselectivity in the Pd/l-pGlu-catalyzed C-H bond activation step.
