An effective control design approach based on novel enhanced aquila optimizer for automatic voltage regulator

Summary: This paper presents a new metaheuristic algorithm called enAO which enhances the Aquila optimizer (AO) algorithm by incorporating a modified opposition-based learning (OBL) mechanism and Nelder-Mead (NM) simplex search method. The enAO algorithm demonstrates superior performance compared to the original AO algorithm on challenging benchmark functions. It is also proposed for designing a PID plus second-order derivative (PIDD2) controller for an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) system. The proposed enAO-PIDD2 approach outperforms other available controllers in terms of transient and frequency responses, robustness, and disturbance rejection.
