The use of analytical techniques coupled with chemometrics for tracing the geographical origin of oils: A systematic review (2013-2020)

Haroon Elrasheid Tahir et al.

Summary: The global market for imported, high-quality priced foods has grown significantly in the past decade, leading to a stronger demand for accurate origin labeling of food products. This review discusses the efforts made in using analytical tools and multivariate analysis for the verification of the geographical origin of oils, as well as trends in geographical authentication research and preferred journals for dissemination. Overall, this article provides a useful guideline for the food industry and quality control authorities in selecting appropriate methods for authenticating oils.

Is the Calibration Transfer of Multivariate Calibration Models between High- and Low-Field NMR Instruments Possible? A Case Study of Lignin Molecular Weight

Simon Lindner et al.

Summary: This study investigates the calibration transfer between high-field and benchtop NMR devices for the first time and demonstrates the feasibility of transferring calibrations from high-field to low-field NMR instruments in the case of molecular weight. The results open up new perspectives for applications of benchtop NMR, allowing existing calibrations from expensive high-field instruments to be transferred to cheaper benchtop instruments for cost-saving purposes.

Characteristics and trends in global olive oil research: A bibliometric analysis

Jin Shao et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of olive oil research and found that the annual number of publications in this field has exponentially increased. The geographical distribution of research is concentrated in a few countries, particularly those known for olive oil production. The study also revealed an increasing interest in quality analysis-related research and a declining interest in disease prevention and treatment-related research.

Piecewise direct standardization assisted with second-order calibration methods to solve signal instability in high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection systems

Yue Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a piecewise direct standardization (PDS) assisted with second-order calibration methods for analyzing HPLC-DAD data with signal instability. The results demonstrate that this method can accurately quantify target analytes in the presence of signal instability with time shifts and changes of peak shape and outperforms other methods in terms of potential.

Qualitative pattern recognition in chemistry: Theoretical background and practical guidelines

Paolo Oliveri et al.

Summary: This study introduces qualitative pattern recognition methods in chemometrics, divided into unsupervised and supervised analysis. Supervised analysis is further divided into discriminant and class-modelling methods, with the former requiring at least two classes to be defined, and the latter suitable for one-class classification.
