Axial compressive behavior and model assessment of FRP-confined seawater sea-sand concrete-filled stainless steel tubular stub columns

JinJing Liao et al.

Summary: A FRP-confined seawater sea-sand concrete-filled stainless steel tubular column is proposed to solve the corrosion problems of CFST columns in coastal/offshore constructions and reduce the over-exploitation of river-sands. The axial compressive behavior of FRP-SSCFSST columns is investigated through testing 12 pairs of specimens with different influencing parameters. The experimental results show the strain-hardening response of FRP-SSCFSST specimens and the influence of FRP thickness, stainless steel tube thickness, and concrete strength on the column's performance.

Compressive behavior of PET FRP-confined concrete encased CFST columns

Jie-Kai Zhou et al.

Summary: This study tests ten novel circular PFCECs with various parameters to investigate their axial compressive behavior. The results show that the load-carrying capacity of PFCECs increases with the diameter ratio, but ultimate axial strains and residual axial loads do not necessarily increase. Existing models can predict the ultimate axial stresses/strains accurately, but not the complete axial stress-axial strain responses of PFCECs.

Static strength of CFRP-strengthened preloaded circular concrete-filled steel tube stub column columns - Part II: Theoretical and numerical analysis

C. N. Xiong et al.

Summary: A theoretical model is presented to analyze CFRP-strengthened preloaded CFST stub columns, and corresponding equations are derived for calculating the yield strength and the ultimate strength. The finite element modeling using CFRP element is also used to simulate the failure process. The reliability and accuracy of the theoretical model and the FE model are evaluated, and the effects of CFRP layers and preloading percentage on the strength are discussed.

Experimental investigation on axial compressive behavior of novel FRP-ECC-HSC composite short column

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: A novel composite column structure, consisting of an outer fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) tube, an engineered cementitious composite (ECC) ring and an inner high strength concrete (HSC) core, is proposed and experimentally investigated in this study. The ECC ring is used to redistribute the hoop stress and strain from the HSC core to the FRP tube, improving the performance of FRP-confined HSC columns. Through testing 12 stub columns with different HSC core strengths and ECC ring thicknesses, it is found that the FRP-ECC-HSC composite columns exhibit larger FRP confining efficiency and more uniform hoop strain distribution compared to normal FRP-confined HSC columns. The ultimate axial strain is also significantly enhanced, leading to improved ductile compressive behavior.

Axial compressive behavior of geopolymer recycled brick aggregate concrete-filled steel tubular slender columns

Ruyue Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the mechanical behavior of geo-polymer recycled brick aggregate concrete-filled steel tubular (GRBAC-FST) slender columns under axial compression. The replacement ratio of brick aggregates (BA), slenderness ratio, and cross-section type are analyzed. Results show that circular specimens exhibit higher bearing capacity and better plastic deformation capacity, and the ultimate strength of GRBAC-FST slender columns decreases with the increase of the replacement ratio of BA and slenderness ratio.]

Summary: This paper investigates the axial load capacity of double skinned CFDST short and slender columns, taking into account the influence of outer steel and GFRP tubes. Experimental and finite element analysis results indicate that the outer tube material and the outer tube diameter to thickness ratio have a significant impact on the load carrying capacity of the columns.

Behaviour of FRP-con fi ned coal reject concrete columns under axial compression

Hongchao Zhao et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel concept of concrete columns, known as FRP-confined CRC columns, to address the low strength and brittleness issues of CRC. Compression tests showed that the compressive strength and ductility of CRC significantly improved when confined by an exterior FRP jacket, with thicker jackets exhibiting superior performance. The feasibility of predicting the behavior of FCCR with fine aggregate replacement using a model developed by Jiang and Teng was verified through testing.

Axial behaviour of square stub CFST columns strengthened with square steel tube and HPC jacket

Yue Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of reinforced steel tube square stub columns using methods like steel fiber-reinforced concrete and self-stressing concrete. The results suggest that the combined use of steel fiber-reinforced self-stressing concrete can enhance the load-bearing capacity of the columns, while self-stressing concrete may decrease their deformation capacity. In terms of numerical simulation, new factors were introduced into the prediction equations for load capacity.
