Addressing the CO2 challenge through thermocatalytic hydrogenation to carbon monoxide, methanol and methane

Thomas Len et al.

Summary: The impact of carbon dioxide on global warming is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention for the sake of the Earth's ecosystem and humanity. Diminishing atmospheric CO2 concentration through conversion is an attractive solution, which can also lead to the formation of valuable compounds. The use of thermal hydrogenation as a method to achieve this goal requires a catalyst due to the high stability of the CO2 molecule. The designed materials should exhibit outstanding performance and stability, with high selectivity for CO and CH4.

Palladium-catalyzed micellar cross-couplings: An outlook

Tharique N. Ansari et al.

Summary: In the last few decades, cross-coupling approaches using palladium as a catalyst have been widely used for efficient generation of structural diversity. However, traditional practices in organic synthesis have been found to be inefficient due to the use of organic solvents. Using water as a reaction medium along with non-ionic surfactants provides a sustainable alternative, reducing the reliance on toxic organic solvents. This review discusses recent advances in micellar catalysis applied to palladium-mediated cross-couplings, as well as future directions and challenges.

Efficient Ullmann and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions catalyzed by heterogeneous Pd-porous carbon beads catalysts in aqueous media

Faezeh Khosravi et al.

Summary: Carbon-carbon coupling reactions are of great interest for various applications. The use of greener solvents and heterogeneous metal catalysts is desirable. This study successfully synthesized biaryl compounds in water using carbon-supported Pd nanoparticles, achieving shorter reaction time. The utilization of TOP or TPP ligands slowed down Pd leaching. Additionally, a treatment with H2O2 was beneficial for improving the hydrophilicity of the carbon support. These results and methodology contribute to a greener future for C-C coupling reactions.

Size-dependent hydrogen trapping in palladium nanoparticles

Wang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrogen trapping in small Pd nanoparticles was explored through experimental and theoretical approaches. The results showed that the smaller the Pd particle size, the larger the amount of trapped hydrogen and the stronger the binding energy experienced by hydrogen atoms. The simulations indicated that the strong hydrogen trapping sites are octahedral interstitials located at the subsurface of Pd nanoparticles.
