Ultrafast charge transfer in a nonfullerene all-small-molecule organic solar cell: a nonadiabatic dynamics simulation with optimally tuned range-separated functional

Dan Mao et al.

Summary: In this study, the ultrafast charge transfer in a nonfullerene all-small-molecule donor-acceptor system was investigated using linear-response time dependent density functional theory (LR-TDDFT)-based nonadiabatic dynamics simulations. The results provide important insights into the molecular structure, energy level positions, and charge transfer processes in the system.

Chemical Bonding as a New Avenue for Controlling Excited-State Properties and Excitation Energy-Transfer Processes in Zinc Phthalocyanine-Fullerene Dyads

Zi-Wen Li et al.

Summary: Chemical bonding plays a crucial role in regulating the excited-state and optoelectronic properties of donor-acceptor dyads, affecting the energy transfer processes between ZnPc and C60. The 5-6 bonding configuration favors the excitation energy transfer from ZnPc to C60, while the 6-6 bonding configuration inhibits this process. Nonadiabatic dynamics simulations show that excitation energy transfer was observed in the 5-6 bonding configuration, involving several LE and CT excitons participating in the energy transfer process.

Excitation Wavelength-Dependent Charge Generation Dynamics in a Nonfullerene Organic Solar Cell Interface

Dong-Hui Xu et al.

Summary: Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) based nonadiabatic dynamics simulations were used to explore the ultrafast photoinduced dynamics at a nonfullerene D-A PTB7@PDI interface. Different charge generation processes were observed upon excitation with different wavelengths, and the charge generation processes occurred within a few picoseconds, consistent with previous experimental work. These ultrafast charge generation processes in a wide range of solar spectra contribute to the excellent photovoltaic properties of such organic solar cells.

Free Charge Carriers in Homo-Sorted p-Stacks of Donor-Acceptor Conjugates

Meera Madhu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the recent advancements in hierarchical organization of molecular building blocks for improved photoconversion in organic solar cells. The self-sorted donor-on-donor/acceptor-on-acceptor arrangements have shown enhanced charge separation efficiency through ultrafast excited state dynamics. The controlled interface and electronic coupling between covalently linked donors and acceptors provide better charge carrier generation efficiency and offer new possibilities for functional supramolecular architectures.
