3D concrete printing of eco-friendly geopolymer containing brick waste

Kirubajiny Pasupathy et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of alkali-activated brick waste powder as a binder for 3D printable geopolymer mixes. The effects of brick waste content on the fresh properties and hardened properties of the mixes were studied. The results showed that the fresh properties of the printable mixes improved with the addition of brick waste, while the hardened properties were affected by the content of brick waste.

Evaluation of the unconfined uniaxial compression test to study the evolution of apparent printable mortar properties during the early age transition regime

Ursula Pott et al.

Summary: The aim of this study is to evaluate the evolution of the apparent material properties of printable mortar using the unconfined uniaxial compression test (UUCT), and to establish validated and reliable test procedures. The focus is on determining the apparent static Young's modulus, which defines stability failure limitations for 3D printed structures. The results of UUCT beyond the apparent elastic range help distinguish between ductile and brittle behavior.

3D concrete printing with cement-coated recycled crumb rubber: Compressive and microstructural properties

Junli Liu et al.

Summary: The modification of rubber surface is effective in enhancing the mechanical performance of concrete with recycled rubber particles. However, there is limited research on 3D-printed cementitious materials. This study investigated the correlation between compressive strength and microstructural property of 3D-printed rubberised mortar. The presence of hardened cementitious shells improved the bonding between rubber surface and cement matrix. The anisotropy in compressive strength was influenced by the ratio of cement to rubber.

Summary: This manuscript provides a comprehensive literature review on the physical and/or chemical treatment methods of end-of-life tire (ELT) rubber to improve the properties of rubberized cementitious composite. It summarizes the various treatment methods employed and discusses the mechanisms and changes in the microstructure of the ELT rubber. Recommendations are provided to assess the most effective pretreatment methods for ELT rubber in terms of engineering properties.

Investigation of freeze-thaw mechanism for crumb rubber concrete by the online strain sensor

Yujiang Gou et al.

Summary: A deep understanding of the frost resistance of crumb rubber concretes (CRC) is crucial for their design. This study monitored internal strain during freeze-thaw cycles with a vibrating wire strain sensor and studied microstructure variations based on mass loss rate and elastic modulus variation. It was found that crumb rubber acts as a regulating valve during freeze-thaw cycles, reducing frost heaving pressure and inhibiting exterior water invasion, thus improving CRC frost resistance.
