Improved energy storage performance in rare-earth modified lead-free BNT-based relaxor ferroelectric ceramics

Chengwen Bin et al.

Summary: In this study, a collaborative optimization design was used to achieve excellent energy storage performance in rare-earth oxides modified BNBT-SBT ceramics by simultaneously enhancing the breakdown field strength (Eb) and relaxor behavior. The La-doped BNBT-SBT ceramic exhibited a superior energy storage density of 4.4 J cm(-3) and an ultrahigh efficiency of about 91% under a moderate electric field of 300 kV/cm. It also showed good temperature stability, frequency endurance, electric fatigue resistance, and excellent power density, making it a promising candidate for high-energy storage capacitors.

High-Energy Storage Properties over a Broad Temperature Range in La-Modified BNT-Based Lead-Free Ceramics

Bingkai Chu et al.

Summary: In this study, high-performance lead-free energy storage ceramics were designed based on their phase diagram, and the energy storage performance was enhanced through phase adjustment and domain control via doping. La3+ doping improved crystal structure symmetry and induced the formation of polar nanoregions, resulting in high energy density and storage efficiency. The microstructural optimization using a two-step sintering approach further improved the energy storage performance and exhibited excellent frequency stability, thermal endurance, and fatigue resistance.
