What Does Disease Progression Look Like in Ulcerative Colitis, and How Might It Be Prevented?

Noa Krugliak Cleveland et al.

Summary: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by inflammation limited to the mucosa, but persistent clinical disease activity can occur even when mucosal healing has been achieved. UC increases the risk of disease progression and can lead to various complications. Unlike Crohn's disease, halting the progression of UC has been overlooked. This review highlights the progressive nature of UC and proposes further study of its natural history and treatment goals.

Ameliorative Effect of Citropten Isolated from Citrus aurantifolia Peel Extract as a Modulator of T Cell and Intestinal Epithelial Cell Activity in DSS-Induced Colitis

Hyun-Su Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the attenuating effect of citropten on DSS-induced colitis by modulating the activity of T cells and intestinal epithelial cells. We found that citropten downregulates the activity of T cells and intestinal epithelial cells by reducing the NF kappa B and MAPK signaling pathway. This study highlights the therapeutic potential of citropten in the treatment of colitis.

Polydatin alleviates DSS- and TNBS-induced colitis by suppressing Th17 cell differentiation via directly inhibiting STAT3

Yao-Jun Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that polydatin can inhibit the differentiation of Th17 cells and alleviate inflammatory bowel disease. By inhibiting the phosphorylation of STAT3, polydatin reduces the number of Th17 cells and relieves colitis.
