Efficacy comparison of vascularized iliac crest bone flap and Ilizarov bone transport in the treatment of traumatic bone defects of the tibia combined with large soft tissue defects

Summary: This study found that vascularized iliac crest bone flap (VIBF) is a more effective method than Ilizarov bone transport for tibial defects with limited length. VIBF has advantages of faster healing, shorter external fixation time, and better external fixation index. However, Ilizarov bone transport is still preferred for defects that exceed the repair length of the iliac flap.
