Genomes of the cosmopolitan fruit pest Bactrocera dorsalis (Diptera: Tephritidae) reveal its global invasion history and thermal adaptation

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: This study provides insights into the evolutionary history and genetic basis of temperature adaptation in B. dorsalis. It reveals the taxonomic uncertainties between B. dorsalis and B. carambolae, as well as the population structure and global invasion routes of B. dorsalis. Additionally, it identifies genomic regions and candidate genes associated with extreme thermal stress.

Palm wine as a food-based bait for monitoring adult Ceratitis ditissima (Munro) (Diptera: Tephritidae) in citrus orchards

John Abraham et al.

Summary: We evaluated the effectiveness of palm wine and three other food-based mixtures as baits for trapping C. ditissima and the impact on non-target insects. The results showed that traps baited with palm wine captured more C. ditissima and had a lower proportion of non-target insects compared to traps baited with other lures. This study suggests that cheap palm wine can be used to monitor the presence of C. ditissima in citrus orchards.

Population Genetics for Inferring Introduction Sources of the Oriental Fruit Fly, Bactrocera dorsalis: A Test for Quarantine Use in Korea

Hyojoong Kim et al.

Summary: The global agricultural product trade has led to an increase in the probability of foreign pest invasions, prompting the need for stronger quarantine measures. The oriental fruit fly is a highly destructive pest for fruit crops in tropical and subtropical regions, with a wide host range. Results suggest that Taiwan and Thailand are likely the global origins for Southeast Asian populations of Bactrocera dorsalis, aiding in the identification of future invasion sources.

Fruit fly surveillance in Togo (West Africa): state of diversity and prevalence of species

Komina Amevoin et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the biodiversity of fruit fly species in mango orchards in different ecological zones of Togo, identifying 40 species with Bactrocera dorsalis and Ceratitis cozyra being dominant. The results provide an essential reference for evaluating the effectiveness of control activities against fruit flies in Togo in the future.
