The effect of buffer concentration on the dynamic/equilibrium surface tension of bovine serum albumin solution

Siam Hussain et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of phosphate buffer concentration on the surface tension of bovine serum albumin solutions. The results showed that lower buffer concentrations slowed down the relaxation of surface tension and increased the equilibrium surface tension, while higher buffer concentrations accelerated the relaxation and decreased the equilibrium surface tension. Additionally, the dynamic surface tension of BSA solutions relaxed the slowest at a buffer concentration of 0.3 mM.

Synthesis and characterization of bisacodyl loaded chitosan nanoparticles (BSL@CS NPs), multispectroscopic study of their interaction with bovine serum albumin (BSA)

Afreen Banu et al.

Summary: Novel bisacodyl-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (BSL@CS NPs) were synthesized using the ionotropic gelation method. Characterization techniques (FTIR, PXRD, SEM, and TEM) confirmed the presence of spherical BSL@CS NPs. The interaction between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and BSL@CS NPs was evaluated using various spectroscopic techniques, indicating static quenching mechanism and conformational changes in BSA.

On the equilibrium surface tension of aqueous protein solutions - Bovine serum albumin

Thu Thi-Yen Le et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a more precise and accurate method for measuring the equilibrium surface tension (ST) of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in aqueous solutions. Regardless of the BSA concentration, the ST remains constant at the later stage. These results are further confirmed by a perturbation process. The findings indicate that the equilibrium ST of BSA solutions remains essentially unchanged over a wide range of BSA concentration.

Evaluation of the dilational modulus of protein films by pendant bubble tensiometry

Wen-Chi Tseng et al.

Summary: A new approach for evaluating the dilational modulus of an adsorbed protein film was proposed in this study, which involved monitoring the relaxations of surface tension, surface area, and temperature of the solution. The dilational modulus was obtained by analyzing the interfacial perturbations during the adsorption process.

Albumin-hyaluronic acid colloidal nanocarriers: Effect of human and bovine serum albumin for intestinal ibuprofen release enhancement

Alexandra N. Kovacs et al.

Summary: The effective applicability of serum albumin-hyaluronic acid (HyA) conjugates as potential drug delivery colloidal particles for encapsulating ibuprofen (IBU) has been demonstrated. These protein/polysaccharide colloidal carriers show improved dissolution, intestinal permeability, and flux features compared to unformulated IBU, making them a more controlled, lower dose loading, and gastric mucosa-sparing therapeutic solution in high-dose IBU therapy.

Shedding light on the molecular interaction between the Hepatitis B virus inhibitor, clevudine, and human serum albumin: Thermodynamic, spectroscopic, microscopic, and in silico analyses

Mujaheed Abubakar et al.

Summary: The molecular interaction between clevudine and human serum albumin was investigated, revealing the formation of a complex. The static mode of protein fluorescence quenching was involved, supported by hydrophobic interactions, hydrogen bonds, and van der Waals forces. The binding site of clevudine in human serum albumin was identified in subdomain IIA (Site I).

Human versus Bovine Serum Albumin: A Subtle Difference in Hydrophobicity Leads to Large Differences in Bulk and Interface Behavior

Ralph Maier et al.

Summary: This study compared the phase behavior of human serum albumin (HSA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) in the presence of trivalent cations. It was found that HSA has stronger intermolecular attraction at the same compositions, leading to easier crystallization. Additionally, the higher surface hydrophobicity of HSA promotes directional and specific protein-protein contacts essential for protein crystallization.
