Ag and Ni doped graphitic carbon nitride coated on wood as a highly porous and efficient photoabsorber in interfacial solar steam generation

Mahdi Karimi-Nazarabad et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the performance of Ag and Ni doped g-C3N4 as efficient photothermal materials coated on poplar wood in interfacial solar steam generation (ISSG) of seawater. Doping Ag or Ni improves the photothermal conversion efficiency of g-C3N4 due to their surface plasmon resonance effect. Ag doped g-C3N4 shows higher solar evaporation efficiency compared to Ni doped g-C3N4, attributed to its stronger absorption in visible and infrared regions. The highest evaporation flux of 3.72 kg m(-2) h(-1) is achieved for Ag doped g-C3N4 coated wood under 3 sun. The concentration of Na+ in Caspian seawater decreases from 3150.2 to 3.8 mg L-1 using this photothermal material. The Ag doped g-C3N4/wood evaporator device exhibits stable water generation ability in ten evaporation cycles.

Multifunctional Photoabsorber for Highly Efficient Interfacial Solar Steam Generation and Wastewater Treatment

Roya Mehrkhah et al.

Summary: Interfacial solar steam generation (ISSG) is a green and sustainable technology for seawater desalination and wastewater purification. A photoabsorber, consisting of wood coated with Pd nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide, achieved a high evaporation flux of 5.25 kg m(-2) h(-1) under 3 kW m(-2). The device also exhibited excellent performance in wastewater treatment, effectively removing dyes and reducing the concentration of heavy metals.

A highly efficient and sustainable photoabsorber in solar-driven seawater desalination and wastewater purification

Masoomeh Shafaee et al.

Summary: Producing freshwater from seawater and wastewater is important, and a three-dimensional carbonized pine cone (CPC1) was fabricated as a low-cost and efficient photoabsorber for this purpose. CPC1 exhibited high conversion efficiency and evaporation flux due to its large solar-light-harvesting ability, porosity, rapid water transportation, water/air interface, and low thermal conductivity. It also showed good stability and the ability to purify seawater and wastewater through the removal of organic dyes and reduction of polluting ions.

Effect of controlled humidity on resistive switching of multilayer VO2 devices

Vithaldas Raja et al.

Summary: Lateral devices using vanadium oxide sheets exhibit resistive switching with an electric field induced insulator-to-metal transition and multi-step sequential breakdown, showing a significant resistance change between high and low resistance states. The breakdown voltage and switching characteristics of the devices are strongly influenced by relative humidity, with clear hysteresis in switching cycles at different humidity levels. The switching voltage decreases exponentially with humidity due to the dissociation of water molecules on the VO2 surface, providing charge carriers to the VO2 and forming hydroxyl ions in combination with oxygen defects.
