Watermelon rinds as cost-efficient adsorbent for acridine orange: a response surface methodological approach

Summary: In this study, watermelon rinds were used as an eco-friendly and cost-efficient adsorbent to remove acridine orange from contaminated water samples. The adsorption efficiency of the adsorbents was optimized by adjusting factors such as pH, sorbent dosage, the concentration of acridine orange, and contact time. The prepared adsorbents were characterized and the adsorption kinetics were investigated. The results showed that the thermally treated watermelon rinds had higher adsorption capacity and could be regenerated effectively.

Summary: Poly (methyl methacrylate)/polyaniline/Fe3O4 nanocomposites were prepared using casting technique. The relation between Fe3O4 nanoparticles and PMMA/PANI matrix was analyzed using XRD, showing a complex relation. An increase in Fe3O4 concentration reduced the crystallinity of the polymer films and decreased the optical band gap. TEM analysis confirmed the spherical shape of the produced nanoparticles. The nanocomposites exhibited enhanced dielectric characteristics, ac conductivity, and magnetic properties with an increase in Fe3O4 content, making them suitable for magneto-electronic devices.

Design and fabrication of magnetic Fe3O4-QSM nanoparticles loaded with ciprofloxacin as a potential antibacterial agent

Summary: In this study, magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) coated with quince seed mucilage (QSM) were synthesized and loaded with ciprofloxacin (CIP) as an antibacterial agent. The samples were characterized using various methods, and the results confirmed the fabrication of highly pure cubic spinel phase for Fe3O4 NPs. The NPs exhibited a spherical morphology with a mean diameter of 13 nm and showed suitable colloidal stability for biological applications. The NPs also demonstrated high saturation magnetization and superparamagnetic property. The synthesized Fe3O4@QSM-CIP NPs exhibited antibacterial activity against both Gram positive and Gram-negative bacteria. These findings suggest the promising potential of these magnetic NPs with antibacterial activity for biomedical applications.

Fe3O4@date seeds powder: a sustainable nanocomposite material for wastewater treatment

Summary: This study describes the synthesis and utilization of Fe3O4@date seeds powder as an adsorbent for removing methylene blue from water. The Fe3O4 nanoparticles were grown on date seeds powder using a simple co-precipitation method. The prepared bio-adsorbent showed different chemical functional groups on its surface. The study demonstrated that the bio-adsorbent had a monolayer adsorption capacity of 76.652 mg g(-1) at 27 degrees C and followed the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo second order kinetic model. The adsorption process was found to be dominated by electrostatic interactions between the functional groups on the bio-adsorbent surface and the dye, with intraparticle diffusion as the rate determining step.

As2O3 capture from incineration flue gas by Fe2O3-modified porous carbon: Experimental and DFT insights
