Lipid-Sensing Receptor FFAR4 Modulates Pulmonary Epithelial Homeostasis following Immunogenic Exposures Independently of the FFAR4 Ligand Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA)

Stefanie N. Sveiven et al.

Summary: The impact of pulmonary free fatty acid receptor 4 (FFAR4) on the pulmonary immune response and return to homeostasis was investigated using a human pulmonary immunogenic exposure model. Results showed that the anti-inflammatory effects of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were independent of FFAR4 expression. Mice lacking FFAR4 had reduced immune cells in the airways, epithelial dysplasia, and impaired pulmonary barrier integrity, indicating the potential therapeutic role of FFAR4 in pulmonary diseases.

DHA attenuated Japanese Encephalitis virus infection-induced neuroinflammation and neuronal cell death in cultured rat Neuron/glia

Summary: The study demonstrated that DHA exhibits anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and antiviral effects against JEV infection by modulating the immune response of microglia and neurons. This suggests that DHA may be a potential candidate for treating neuroinflammation associated with viral infections such as Japanese Encephalitis.

Summary: The study developed vaccines targeting IL-4 and IL-13, demonstrating promising prophylactic and therapeutic effects in mouse models of asthma. Vaccines specific for human IL-4 and IL-13 also showed efficient neutralization of these cytokines in mice, suggesting a potential long-term therapeutic strategy for allergic asthma.
