Ni-coordination polymer as potential remedial compound for efficient detection and seclusion of toxic aromatic dyes from contaminated water

Priyanka Singh et al.

Summary: A parqueted 2D metal-organic framework (Ni(HBTC)(Bimb)) was synthesized hydrothermally and used as an adsorbent for the removal of 13 harmful organic dyes in contaminated water. The adsorption study showed that it had high efficiency for cationic, anionic, and neutral dyes, with the adsorption efficiency increasing exponentially with pH. The material exhibited better adsorption capacity than rice husk and sawdust, and its detection limit for the dyes ranged from 0.70 ppm to 1.36 ppm.

Sol-gel derived iron-manganese oxide nanoparticles: a promising dual-functional material for solar photocatalysis and antimicrobial applications

Dilawar Ali et al.

Summary: Cubic bixbyite FeMnO3 oxide nanoparticles were synthesized via co-precipitation, and the effects of calcination temperature on their properties were investigated. Structural and optical changes were observed upon calcination, with the nanoparticles transforming into a crystalline phase. Higher calcination temperatures resulted in strong absorption in the visible and near-infrared regions and a decrease in the optical band gap. The nanoparticles showed excellent photocatalytic degradation capability and antibacterial activity.

Enhanced photocatalytic and antibacterial activity of NiSe2-TiO2 nanocomposites under visible light

Rabia Maryam et al.

Summary: In this study, NiSe2-TiO2 nanocomposites with varying mass ratios were successfully prepared and their photocatalytic performance against RhB removal and E.coli inhibition was investigated under visible light. Pure NiSe2 nanocubes were synthesized by hydrothermal method and pure TiO2 microspheres were fabricated by sol-gel method. Various characterization techniques were used to investigate the structure, composition, morphology, and optical characteristics of the samples. The nanocomposites showed high purity, confirmed by X-ray diffraction patterns, Raman, EDX, and FTIR spectroscopy measurements. The surface morphology of NiSe2 was nanocubes, while TiO2 was microspheres, and for NiSe2-TiO2 nanocomposites, both nanocubes and microspheres coexisted. The bandgap energies decreased with increasing NiSe2 mass ratios in the nanocomposite samples, revealed by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy measurements. Among all the nanocomposites, 50% NiSe2-TiO2 showed the highest photocatalytic efficiency for RhB degradation. Additionally, the prepared nanocomposites exhibited superior antibacterial activities against E.coli under visible light irradiation.

Development of a new CoS-Supported ZnAl2O4 catalyst for the visible photodegradation of a basic textile dye from water

Youssef Fahoul et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the competitiveness of a material for solar treatment of wastewater from the textile industry, which is a major source of global water pollution. The material, prepared using a two-step hydrothermal method, exhibits excellent photon absorption properties across the UV and visible light regions of the solar spectrum. Degradation experiments with appropriate scavengers suggest the involvement of specific species in the photocatalytic process. Further investigations on operational parameters and cycling experiments confirm the stability of the catalyst. With a dye concentration of 20 ppm and catalyst loading of 1 g/l, complete degradation (100%) based on dye bleaching and over 90% mineralization based on total organic carbon analysis were achieved. The study highlights the potential of sulfide-supported spinel materials for advanced solar oxidation technologies in wastewater treatment.

Nanostructured ZnO-Based Electrochemical Sensor with Anionic Surfactant for the Electroanalysis of Trimethoprim

Vinoda B. Patil et al.

Summary: In this research, a nanostructured zinc oxide nanoparticle-modified carbon paste electrode (ZnO/CPE) was used along with an anionic surfactant and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) to detect trimethoprim (TMP) through voltametric techniques. The electrode showed higher peak current than the original CPE. Various parameters such as pH, immersion time, scan rate, and concentration were studied. The TMP electrode process was found to be irreversible and diffusion controlled with two electrons transferred. The developed electrode proved effective in detecting TMP in pharmaceutical dosages and urine samples, indicating its potential in clinical and pharmaceutical sample analysis.
