Mechanical and Thermal Analysis of Cissus Quadrangularis Stem Fiber/Epoxy Composite with Micro-Red Mud Filler Composite for Structural Application

V. C. Sathish Gandhi et al.

Summary: In this study, CQSF-reinforced composite particulate filled with micro-red mud was fabricated and its mechanical and thermal behaviors were investigated. The results showed that the addition of red mud could improve the tensile and flexural strength of the material, but it decreased after a certain proportion, while the hardness increased gradually with the filler content. Meanwhile, the maximum energy absorption capacity was observed when 7.5wt% red mud was added.

Recycling red mud to develop a competitive desulfurization flux for Kanbara Reactor (KR) desulfurization process

Kang-Ho Bang et al.

Summary: This study assessed red mud as a new desulfurization flux in the steelmaking process and found that pre-reduction of red mud and mechanical stirring effectively enhanced desulfurization efficiency. However, adding more than 20% red mud did not increase the desulfurization rate. The evaluation of desulfurization efficiency using the DeS Index showed that red mud/lime mixtures had similar efficiency compared to commercially used desulfurization fluxes and even outperformed lime/fluorspar mixed flux.

CO2 mineral sequestration by using blast furnace slag: From batch to continuous experiments

Shan Ren et al.

Summary: The study proposed an indirect CO2 mineral sequestration method using blast furnace slag as feedstock. Continuous experiments revealed several problematic situations, but these were successfully resolved by adding an inert component into the feedstock for returning charge operation. The harsher reaction conditions in the continuous experiments were attributed to scale-up effects compared to batch experiments.

Balancing the toughness and strength in polypropylene composites

Kamyar Shirvanimoghaddam et al.

Summary: Fracture toughness is a key performance indicator when selecting plastics for critical structural applications, and enhancing fracture toughness by incorporating elastomers into plastics is a effective strategy. However, the toughening mechanism in polypropylene composites requires careful study due to the presence of a second phase and the importance of interfacial bonding. This paper provides an overview of toughening mechanism in thermoplastic composites and discusses the factors influencing the efficiency of toughened polymer composites.
