Employment of the Australian graduate nursing workforce: A retrospective analysis

Summary: This study explores the employment trends of newly graduate registered nurses in Australia from 2004 to 2019. The findings suggest an increase in the number of nursing graduates each year, but a decrease in the number of graduates employed in nursing at 6 months post-graduation. However, for those who do find employment as nurses, the majority remain in the healthcare workforce for at least 3 years. The study also reveals an increase in weekly working hours and the use of fixed-term contracts. Strategies may be needed to improve employment rates for new graduates, especially in non-metropolitan areas.

Three paths to a Swedish nursing license: Two for internationally educated nurses and one for regular nursing students - A cross-sectional study of self-rated professional competence, self-efficacy, and thriving

Nurse Migration in Australia, Germany, and the UK: A Rapid Evidence Assessment of Empirical Research Involving Migrant Nurses

Summary: There is a growing shortage of skilled nursing staff worldwide, and nurse migration has become a common strategy to address this issue. Germany, the UK, and Australia are examined as destination countries for nurse migrants in this article, and the contribution of nurse migrants to the data on which these arrangements are based is not clear. The study found that migrant nurses often face discrimination, language and communication competencies are important for them, and structured integration programs are highly valued by both migrant nurses and destination healthcare employers.

Experience of internationally qualified nurses providing palliative care in a New Zealand aged residential care facility

Summary: The study found that IQNs providing palliative care in aged residential care face challenges due to unfamiliarity with New Zealand's systems, cultural differences, and communication barriers. Transitioning to a New Zealand approach to palliative care highlighted participants' adaptability and resilience. Consistent training and support from the PARC team and additional cultural training within CAP are required to support IQNs in providing palliative care.
