A new ultrasound-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction method utilizing a switchable hydrophilicity solvent for spectrophotometric determination of nitrite in food samples

Adil Elik et al.

Summary: A new method called switchable hydrophilicity solvent-based ultrasound-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (SHS-UA-LLME) was proposed for the extraction and determination of nitrite in heat processed foods. The method involved the use of three switchable hydrophilicity solvents, protonation and conversion steps, and the application of ultrasound to enhance extraction capability. Various parameters were optimized, and the method showed good sensitivity and selectivity. The use of SHSs and the elimination of heating and centrifugation steps make this method cost-effective and time-saving compared to other similar methods.

A greenness evaluation and environmental aspects of solidified floating organic drop microextraction for metals: A review

Asim Ridha Hussein et al.

Summary: In the past two decades, green analytical procedures have gained significant attention in various fields, including analytical chemistry. The shift towards green analytical chemistry (GAC) requires the implementation of novel and more effective procedures compared to traditional methods. This review focuses on the influential factors in achieving greenness, such as design, applications, instrumentation, green features, and greenness measurement of the solidified floating organic drop microextraction (SFODME) method for toxic metals. Various solvents, such as ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, and biomolecules, have been utilized to develop environmentally-friendly SFODME modes. The green analytical procedure index (GAPI) and analytical greenness (AGREE) are simple and accurate tools for evaluating and comparing the greenness of different SFODME modes, considering factors such as sample collection, chemical amounts, analysis time, energy consumption, occupational hazards, and waste generation. Future developments are also discussed.

Quality by design paradigm for optimization of green stability indicating HPLC method for concomitant determination of fluorescein and benoxinate

Amira H. H. Kamal et al.

Summary: A green and rapid stability indicating chromatographic method was developed for simultaneous analysis of fluorescein sodium and benoxinate hydrochloride and their degradation products. Fractional factorial and Box-Behnken designs were used for screening and optimization. The optimized method employed a mobile phase consisting of isopropanol and 20 mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution (pH 3.0) in the ratio 27:73, with a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min and column oven temperature of 40°C. Chromatographic analysis was performed on an Eclipse plus C18 column with a DAD detector set at 220 nm. The method showed linear response in the range of 2.5-60 μg/mL for benoxinate and 1-50 μg/mL for fluorescein. Stress degradation studies were conducted under various conditions. The method was successfully applied for quantitation of the drugs in ophthalmic solution with high recovery rates.
