Highly hydrophobic TEMPO-functionalized conducting copolymers for solid-contact ion-selective electrodes*

Jozsef Kozmaa et al.

Summary: Solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SCISEs) are the best electrode embodiment for miniaturized, wearable and disposable sensors for ion/electrolyte measurements in body fluids. However, large scale manufacturing with reproducible calibration parameters is a challenge for SCISEs. The galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) is introduced to determine the optimal preadjustment potential.

TEMPO-Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes for Solid-Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes with Largely Improved Potential Reproducibility and Stability

Jozsef Kozma et al.

Summary: In this study, a new class of solid-contact material based on the covalent functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes with a chemically stable redox molecule was proposed. This material showed excellent reproducibility and stability for potassium ion measurements, with no sensitivity towards O-2, CO2, and light.

Separating boundary potential changes at thin solid contact ion transfer voltammetric membrane electrodes

Canwei Mao et al.

Summary: Thin ion-selective membrane films deposited on solid electrode substrates are useful tools for studying ion transfer processes. The experimental conditions can be chosen to make diffusion processes within the membrane and contacting aqueous solution not rate limiting, allowing equilibrium considerations to describe ion transfer voltammograms. This work describes a model system that agrees with thermodynamic theory, using a redox molecule and a monovalent reference cation for ion transfer. The results show that the full peak width is consistent with theory, with peak current proportional to scan rate supporting thin layer behavior.
