Carbon molecular sieve/ZSM-5 mixed matrix membranes with enhanced gas separation performance and the performance recovery of the aging membranes

Yongyue Zhang et al.

Summary: CMS/ZSM-5 mixed matrix membranes were prepared and investigated for their morphology and structure. The results showed that ZSM-5 particles were well dispersed in the carbon matrix and maintained their microstructure during pyrolysis. The CMS/ZSM-5 MMMs exhibited outstanding gas permeability without significantly sacrificing selectivity compared to pure CMS membranes. Additionally, the aging of the CMS/ZSM-5 MMMs in a humid environment was studied and the permeability of the aging membrane was partially recovered after thermal treatment.

Highly stable Pebax® Renew® thin-film nanocomposite membranes with metal organic framework ZIF-94 and ionic liquid [Bmim][BF4] for CO2 capture

Lidia Martinez-Izquierdo et al.

Summary: In this study, highly efficient thin-film nanocomposite membranes were successfully prepared by incorporating ionic liquid and metal organic framework into a polymer matrix. The addition of ionic liquid and metal organic framework significantly improved the CO2 permeance while slightly decreasing the CO2/N-2 separation selectivity. Long-term stability tests showed that the incorporation of metal organic framework enhanced the stability of the ionic liquid in the membrane.

Mixed matrix membranes with highly dispersed MOF nanoparticles for improved gas separation

Yapeng Shi et al.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are ideal fillers for preparing mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) due to their molecular sieving property. Highly dispersed ZIF-8 nanoparticles with diameter of around 50 nm were prepared by coating isophthalic dihydrazide (IPD) molecular layer onto their surfaces. The modification of IPD greatly enhances the interfacial affinity between ZIF-8 and 6FDA-Durene polyimide (PI) in MMMs, resulting in improved gas permeation performance.
