Automated Linking of Historical Data

Ran Abramitzky et al.

Summary: This study evaluates different automated methods for record linkage and finds that the automated methods perform well, with low false positive rates and a trade-off between false positive and match rate. Additionally, there is relatively little disagreement between human linkers and algorithms when using the same linking variables. Finally, coefficient estimates and parameters of interest are very similar when using linked samples based on different automated methods.
