Diagnostic significance of GATA 3, TTF-1, PTH, chromogranin expressions in parathyroid fine needle aspirations via immuonocytochemical method

Senay Erdogan-Durmus et al.

Summary: This study examined the expression of GATA 3, TTF-1, chromogranin, and PTH in parathyroid FNAs prepared via liquid-based cytology (LBC) technique. The results showed that GATA3 is a reliable marker for identifying the parathyroid origin, and the addition of TTF-1 to the immunocytochemical panel can increase diagnostic accuracy to 96.67%. Although PTH and chromogranin have lower sensitivity, they are still reliable markers for detecting parathyroid origin.

Parathyroid hormone in situ measurement in patients with hyperparathyroidism: single-centre experience of 179 patients

Carine Richa et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate the PTHis procedure and evaluate its performance in patients with hyperparathyroidism and/or undetermined cervical lesions. PTHis measurement in thyroid samples showed higher levels in patients with hyperparathyroidism compared to other lesion types. PTHis demonstrated good accuracy in detecting parathyroid lesions, although false-negative results were observed. The findings suggest that PTHis determination is a safe and effective tool for confirming the parathyroid origin of cervical lesions.

Summary: This study described the ultrasound features of MTC and evaluated the performance of RSS in identifying MTC. It was found that neither single nor the association of ultrasound features were specific for MTC, and the five main RSS correctly identified less than 50% of MTC.

Predictors of adenoma size and location in primary hyperparathyroidism

Barbara Filser et al.

Summary: Preoperative biochemical markers are positively correlated with adenoma volume in PHPT patients, and a multivariable regression model can significantly predict adenoma volume. Cervical ultrasound is superior to scintigraphy for predicting adenoma location, but both methods may be limited by increased thyroid volume.

The influence of nodule size on the aggressiveness of thyroid carcinoma varies with patient's age

Chaoyang Meng et al.

Summary: Large nodule size is significantly associated with high aggressiveness of thyroid carcinoma. The correlation between large nodule size and high aggressiveness varies according to patient's age, indicating that the presence of unfavorable events has different clinical significance for patients of varied ages.
