Current status and quality of radiomic studies for predicting KRAS mutations in colorectal cancer patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Lu-Lu Jia et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the methodological quality of radiomics-based studies for noninvasive, preoperative prediction of Kirsten rat sarcoma (KRAS) mutations in patients with colorectal cancer. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 29 studies were conducted, revealing that radiomics has a moderate preoperative diagnosis and prediction effect on KRAS mutations. However, it has not been implemented as a clinical decision-making tool. Future research should focus on the methodological quality of the study and further validate the model externally using multicenter datasets.

The prognostic impact of RAS on overall survival following liver resection in early versus late-onset colorectal cancer patients

Alexandre A. Jacome et al.

Summary: The study revealed that RAS mutations have a larger negative impact on survival in patients with early-age-onset colorectal cancer, especially in patients under 40 years old. Compared to late-age-onset colorectal cancer patients, RAS mutations in early-age-onset colorectal cancer patients had a more significant effect on survival.

Radiomics-Derived Data by Contrast Enhanced Magnetic Resonance in RAS Mutations Detection in Colorectal Liver Metastases

Vincenza Granata et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the association of RAS mutation status and radiomics-derived data using CE-MRI in liver metastases. Texture parameters derived by CE-MRI showed better results compared to morphological metrics in individualized evaluation of CRLM. Multivariate analysis and pattern recognition approaches allowed stratifying the patients according to RAS mutation status.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
