Br-/BrO--mediated highly efficient photoelectrochemical epoxidation of alkenes on α-Fe2O3

Yukun Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, a photoelectrochemical Br-/BrO- mediated system on alpha-Fe2O3 is developed for efficient epoxidation reactions. The system achieves high selectivity (>99%) and faradaic efficiency (82% +/- 4%) for a wide range of alkenes, surpassing the reported electrochemical and photoelectrochemical methods.

Sustainable Wacker-Type Oxidations

Purushothaman Rajeshwaran et al.

Summary: The Wacker reaction is a significant industrial transformation that oxidizes olefins to ketones. However, it typically requires expensive palladium catalysts, which has led to the development of Wacker-type processes that avoid their use, allowing for more sustainable procedures.

Selective interfacial oxidation of organic pollutants in Fenton-like system mediated by Fe(III)-adsorbed carbon nanotubes

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents a heterogeneous Fenton-like system based on electrostatic attraction for selective oxidation of target compounds. The Fe-OCNT catalyst exhibits high selectivity towards methylene blue and chrysoidine G, showing excellent resistance and reusability. The adsorption of HO• on the CNT surface is suggested to be responsible for the selective oxidation process.

A cross-dehydrogenative C(sp3)-H heteroarylation via photo-induced catalytic chlorine radical generation

Chia-Yu Huang et al.

Summary: Hydrogen atom abstraction from C(sp(3))-H bonds of naturally abundant alkanes for alkyl radical generation represents a promising yet underexplored strategy in the alkylation reaction designs. The authors demonstrate a photo-induced and chemical oxidant-free cross-dehydrogenative coupling between alkanes and heteroarenes using catalytic chloride and cobalt catalyst, achieving successful couplings with satisfactory yields. The dual catalytic platform features the in situ engendered chlorine radical for alkyl radical generation and exploits the cobaloxime catalyst for catalytic turnover enabling hydrogen evolution.

Decatungstate-mediated solar photooxidative cleavage of C=C bonds using air as an oxidant in water

Pan Xie et al.

Summary: The study presents a green and sustainable strategy for the selective cleavage of C = C double bonds in aryl olefins using solar energy, air as the oxidant, and water as the solvent. Various aryl olefins showed good tolerance in this method and yielded the desired carbonyl products in satisfactory yields. The homogeneous catalytic system used in the reaction could also be reused and retained good activity even after repeating three times, with involvement of O-2(-) and O-1(2) in the reaction and proposed mechanisms involving electron transfer and energy transfer pathways based on mechanism investigations.
