High-risk human papillomavirus genotype distribution among women living with HIV; implication for cervical cancer prevention in a resource limited setting

Patrick Kafui Akakpo et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the distribution of high-risk HPV genotypes among women living with HIV and its implications for cervical cancer prevention efforts. The results showed a high prevalence of high-risk HPV in these women, with multiple infections and an association with HIV viral load. Therefore, comprehensive HIV care for these women should include awareness of cervical cancer, vaccination, and implementation of screening and follow-up protocols. National programs in lower-middle-income countries, such as Ghana, should consider using an HPV-based screen-triage-treat approach with partial genotyping.

Testing key messages about extending cervical screening intervals

Laura A. Marlow et al.

Summary: This study tested the impact of different messages about extending cervical screening intervals on acceptance. The groups who received additional information were more likely to find the change acceptable. Emphasizing interval safety, test accuracy and cell changes resulted in more positive attitudes and a better understanding. However, those who were up-to-date with screening or had previous abnormal results were less accepting of longer intervals.

Acceptability of Self-Sampling for Cervical Cancer Screening Among Women Living With HIV and HIV-Negative Women in Limbe, Cameroon

Amanda J. Pierz et al.

Summary: The study shows that self-sampling is an acceptable method of specimen collection for women in Cameroon, and educational interventions are needed to increase knowledge and willingness to utilize it. Stigma related to HIV may prevent HIV-negative women from accessing cervical cancer screening in HIV treatment settings.
