High-Speed Optical Mode Switch in Lithium Niobate on Insulator

Yongheng Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes and experimentally demonstrates an optical mode switch using a three-waveguide-coupling structure in the lithium niobate on insulator platform. The demonstrated optical mode switch has an insertion loss of 4.3 dB, an extinction ratio of 17.1 dB, and a switching time of below 28 ps. This work paves the way for future chip-scale high-speed mode-division-multiplexing systems.

Femtosecond laser direct writing of depressed cladding waveguides in Nd:YAG with ear-like structures: fabrication and laser generation

Xiaoli Sun et al.

Summary: A low-loss depressed cladding waveguide architecture was designed and fabricated in neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet crystal, with ear-like waveguide structures formed by femtosecond laser writing. These structures showed more symmetric mode profiles and lower losses, leading to efficient waveguide lasers in both continuous wave and pulsed regimes, as well as a passively fundamentally Q-switched laser with narrow pulse width and high repetition rate.
