Effects of the Ar flow rate on the composition, structure, and properties of near-stoichiometric SiC fibres that were annealed at 1600°C

Yong-shou Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Ar flow rate on the high-temperature resistance and mechanical properties of nearly stoichiometric SiC fibres. It was found that a low Ar flow rate is crucial for preserving the properties of the fibres, while a high flow rate leads to rapid degradation in mechanical properties.

Fabrication of 2H/3C-SiC heterophase junction nanocages for enhancing photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Yongzhi Liu et al.

Summary: The morphology and structure of photocatalyst are crucial for photocatalytic activity. SiC semiconductor, with its negative conduction band position, is considered a promising material for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. In this study, SiC nanocages were creatively synthesized using a simple low temperature molten-salt-mediated magnesiothermic reduction method with SiO2 as a template. The morphology and phase composition of SiC nanocages could be controlled by adjusting the magnesium dosage and reaction temperature. The 2H and 3C crystal phases in SiC nanocages formed heterophase junctions, promoting efficient photogenerated electron transfer and enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the 2H/3C-SiC samples. The optimized SiC nanocage sample exhibited a CO generation rate of 4.68 lmol g(-1)h(-1) for photocatalytic CO2 reduction, which was 3.25 times higher than that of commercial SiC.

Synthesis, characterization and growth mechanism of SiC fibers

Fei Li et al.

Summary: Smooth 2H-SiC fibers and a small amount of tower-like 3C-SiC fibers were synthesized successfully using a simple catalyst-free method. The synthesized SiC fibers consist of SiC wires and whiskers, showing different morphologies and growth orientations. The growth mechanism and process of SiC fibers were also discussed.

Highly Selective Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction to CH4 by Ball-Milled Cubic Silicon Carbide Nanoparticles under Visible-Light Irradiation

Hao Li et al.

Summary: Gram-scale cubic silicon carbide nanoparticles with amorphous silicon oxide shell and abundant surface states are prepared through a simple mechanical milling approach, which enhances charge separation and prevents corrosion under visible light. The unique electronic properties of 3C-SiC nanoparticles address the challenge of low selectivity in photocatalytic CO2 reduction to C-1 compounds, achieving over 90% selectivity for CH4 production with efficient water oxidation.
