Latent Patterns of Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms, Depression, and Posttraumatic Growth Among Adolescents During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Rui Zhen et al.

Summary: Research shows that during the COVID-19 pandemic, adolescents' posttraumatic reactions exhibit three distinct patterns: growth, distress, and struggle. Cognitive emotional regulation strategies like positive refocusing and reappraisal are associated with growth patterns, while rumination, catastrophizing, and putting into perspective are linked to distress patterns.

Valid measurement of DSM-5 persistent complex bereavement disorder and DSM-5-TR and ICD-11 prolonged grief disorder: The Traumatic Grief Inventory-Self Report Plus (TGI-SR plus )

L. I. M. Lenferink et al.

Summary: The study examined the psychometric properties of a new self-report measure, TGI-SR+, for assessing criteria sets of DSM-5 PCBD, DSM-5-TR PGD, and ICD-11 PGD. Results showed good internal consistency, temporal stability, and validity, supporting TGI-SR+ as a reliable measure for assessing grief symptoms. Optimal clinical cut-offs for probable cases of DSM-5 PCBD, DSM-5-TR PGD, and ICD-11 PGD were identified.

Summary: During the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy, a significant proportion of the population experienced clinically relevant anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). A longitudinal study revealed that depressive symptoms and PTSS tended to remain stable over time, while anxiety levels showed a significant decrease.

Effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in mitigating adverse mental health outcomes among disaster-exposed health care workers: A systematic review

Livia Ottisova et al.

Summary: Health care workers worldwide face increased risk of adverse mental health outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interventions based on evidence-based protocols, particularly CBT, show promising results in managing PTSD and anxiety symptoms. However, limited evidence and research exist on psychosocial interventions for healthcare workers in disaster situations. Future studies should focus on controlled evaluations and identifying risk factors for effective interventions.

Longitudinal Invariance and Validity of the Impact of Event Scale-Revised Under COVID-19 Pandemic in a Brazilian Sample

Andre Luiz de Carvalho Braule Pinto et al.

Summary: This study investigates the factor structure and longitudinal measurement invariance of the Impact Event Scale-Revised (IES-R). The findings support a five-factor model to explain posttraumatic stress symptoms. The IES-R demonstrates good fit and holds strict longitudinal invariance. It is also related to psychopathology indicators, worsening quality of life, and sleep difficulties.

Regression-Based Approach to Test Missing Data Mechanisms

Serguei Rouzinov et al.

Summary: Missing data occur in most surveys, and knowing their type is essential for proper handling. We propose an approach that uses a regression model and a distribution test to determine whether the missing data are missing completely at random or missing at random, and it is more sensitive to the quantity and type of missing data compared to commonly used methods.

A Latent Transition Analysis of Self-Reported Reasons for Marijuana Use During Young Adulthood

Bethany C. Bray et al.

Summary: Individuals' reasons for marijuana use are associated with their risk for continued use and disordered use. A study using latent transition analysis identified five latent classes of reasons for marijuana use among young adults, with transitions commonly occurring between Non-Users, Experimental Reasons, and Typical Reasons. Factors such as early initiation, non-college attending parents, and college attendance were found to predict transitions to higher-risk classes. As recreational marijuana use becomes more legalized, changes in reasons for use over time should be carefully considered for developing and implementing interventions.

COVID-19 and mental health in Brazil: Psychiatric symptoms in the general population

Jeferson Ferraz Goularte et al.

Summary: An investigation on the occurrence and determinants of psychiatric symptoms among the Brazilian general population revealed high prevalence of anxiety, depression, anger, somatic symptoms, and sleep problems. Factors such as younger age, female gender, low income, lower level of education, longer period of social distancing, and history of previous psychiatric illness were strongly associated with higher severity of symptoms. This highlights the urgent need for specific interventions to address the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.

Network Models of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Meta-Analysis

Adela-Maria Isvoranu et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant between-study heterogeneity in PTSD symptom networks, highlighting the importance of meta-analytic approaches. While clear symptom-links and interpretable clusters were identified in the network, no single or small set of nodes played a more central role than others, with amnesia symptom being the least central. Despite heterogeneity, network models estimated from single samples showed similar structures as the pooled network model.
