Magnetoelectric MEMS Magnetic Field Sensor Based on a Laminated Heterostructure of Bidomain Lithium Niobate and Metglas

Andrei V. Turutin et al.

Summary: In this article, a new technology of non-contact mapping of magnetic fields produced by the human heart muscle using miniaturized and highly sensitive magnetic field sensors is described. The technology involves the use of laminated magnetoelectric heterostructures comprising a thin piezoelectric lithium niobate single crystal and a film of magnetostrictive metglas. High quality metglas layers were deposited by magnetron sputtering and their performance was evaluated. The developed sensors achieved a high magnetoelectric coefficient, a low noise level, and an improved detection limit for AC magnetic fields.

Magnetoelectric Effect in Amorphous Ferromagnetic FeCoSiB/Langatate Monolithic Heterostructure for Magnetic Field Sensing

L. Y. Fetisov et al.

Summary: This paper explores the potential of creating magnetic field sensors using the direct magnetoelectric (ME) effect in a monolithic heterostructure of amorphous ferromagnetic material/langatate. The authors deposited layers of 1.5 mu m-thick FeCoSiB amorphous ferromagnetic material on the surface of langatate single crystal using magnetron sputtering. They obtained a linear conversion ME coefficient of 76.6 V/(Oe center dot cm) at the resonance frequency of 107 kHz. Furthermore, they observed the nonlinear ME effect of voltage harmonic generation with increasing excitation magnetic field, generating second and third harmonics with efficiencies of about 6.3 V/(Oe(2)center dot cm) and 1.8 V/(Oe(3)center dot cm), respectively. The monolithic heterostructure exhibited a hysteresis dependence of ME voltage on a permanent magnetic field due to the presence of ff-Fe iron crystalline phases in the magnetic layer. At the resonance frequency, the structure demonstrated a sensitivity to AC magnetic field of 4.6 V/Oe, a minimum detectable magnetic field of approximately 70 pT, and a low level of magnetic noise of 0.36 pT/Hz(1/2), indicating its potential for use in ME magnetic field sensors.

A Micromechanical Transmitter with Only One BAW Magneto-Electric Antenna

Si Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the potential of using only one bulk acoustic wave (BAW) actuated magnetoelectric (ME) transducer antenna for communication. The signal can be modulated by adjusting the magnetic bias and exciting different resonance modes of the antenna. Two methods for signal amplification are proposed, and the transmission process is simulated using electromagnetic perturbation.

Modeling and experimental investigation of magnetic anomaly detection using advanced triaxial magnetoelectric sensors

Ziyun Chen et al.

Summary: Magnetoelectric (ME) sensors have shown excellent performance in detecting weak magnetic fields. This study developed a high-performance triaxial ME sensor for magnetic anomaly detection (MAD). Experimental results demonstrated its high sensitivity for weak magnetic field detection. A finite element model was employed to analyze the magnetic anomaly induced by a ship, and the simulated results matched well with experimental data, confirming the reliability of the model.

An analytical model for nonlinear magnetoelectric effect in laminated composites

Yang Shi et al.

Summary: This paper presents an analytical and explicit theoretical model for the nonlinear magnetoelectric effect in laminated composites, taking into account the multi-field coupled properties of magnetostrictive materials. Analytical solutions of nonlinear ME voltages in various modes are obtained, predicting that the frequency-multiplying behavior observed in the composites can be tuned by bias magnetic field. The optimal bias field for maximum linear voltage and zero nonlinear voltage is obtained.
