Zhiyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the applicability and accuracy of kinetic and thermodynamic methods in biomass pyrolysis processes. The Friedman method provides accurate activation energies, while the KAS and FWO isoconversional methods lead to systematic errors. The conventional method for determining thermodynamic parameters is based on the conversion rate peak temperature, which has no theoretical basis.

Prediction of thermal degradation of biopolymers in biomass under pyrolysis atmosphere by means of machine learning

Furkan Kartal et al.

Summary: Biomass, as the most widespread renewable energy source, has many advantages but also faces the disadvantage of its heterogeneous structure. Therefore, understanding the thermal degradation of biopolymers in biomass is crucial for the efficiency of biomass-based thermal processes. Artificial neural networks (ANN) offer a promising approach for characterizing the complex structure of biomass. In this study, an ANN model was developed to generate differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) curves for biopolymers in biomass, based on proximate analysis results. The ANN model performed excellently, with R2 values above 0.998, and can estimate thermal degradation for any temperature.

Sirasanagandla Venkata Aravind et al.

Summary: The lignocellulosic biomass waste of Delonix regia can be utilized for bio-oil production through pyrolysis, with the use of mixed metal oxide catalysts and organic solvents for separation. Catalytic pyrolysis improves the stability and quality of bio-oil, while solvent separation enhances the fuel properties. The use of n-hexane as solvent yields higher quality fuel fraction compared to dichloromethane, with increased heating value and lower acidity.

Co-pyrolysis of food waste and wood bark to produce hydrogen with minimizing pollutant emissions

Chanyeong Park et al.

Summary: The study investigated the co-pyrolysis of food waste with lignocellulosic biomass and found that temperature and the ratio of food waste to wood bark had significant effects on product yields, with nitrogen flow rate having a minor impact. Co-pyrolysis at higher temperatures resulted in more non-condensable gases and less char. By combining food waste and wood bark at a 1:1 ratio at 700°C, the highest hydrogen gas yield and the most significant suppression of harmful compound formation were achieved. The study demonstrates the potential of co-pyrolysis for valorizing biowaste and reducing the formation of harmful chemicals.
