Reduction of inhibitory effects on cellulose degradation with pectinase treatment in potato residue

Li Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the inhibitory effects of pectin on the hydrolysis efficiency of cellulose in potato residues. The results show that insoluble pectin acts as a physical barrier on the enzyme acting on the substrate, while soluble pectin has no significant inhibition effect. By adding pectinase, the ineffective adsorption and physical barrier of insoluble pectin can be reduced, resulting in a 30.68% improvement in enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency.

Extraction of Corn Bract Cellulose by the Ammonia-Coordinated Bio-Enzymatic Method

Xushuo Yuan et al.

Summary: This study compared and analyzed the cellulose extraction from corn bract using the CHB (CH3COOH/H2O2/Bio-enzyme) method and the N-CHB (NH3·H2O-CH3COOH/H2O2/Bio-enzyme) method. It discussed the effect of ammonia pretreatment on cellulose extraction by bio-enzymatic methods. The results showed that ammonia promoted the subsequent bio-enzymatic reaction and had a positive effect on cellulose extraction. The N3h-CHB method was found to be the best way to extract cellulose, with improved thermal stability compared to microcrystalline cellulose.

Enzymatic treatment processes for the production of cellulose nanomaterials: A review

Xin Tong et al.

Summary: Cellulose nanomaterials have gained significant attention due to their unique properties. While mechanical treatments for production are possible, they require high energy consumption. Chemical processes are costly and pose environmental concerns. This review focuses on the enzymatic treatment of cellulose fibers, particularly with xylanase and lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMO), to enhance cellulase efficacy and facilitate nano-fibrillation.

Feasibility of pomelo peel dietary fiber as natural functional emulsifier for preparation of Pickering-type emulsion

Kaili Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cellulase on the physicochemical properties of pomelo peel dietary fiber (PDF) and demonstrated the feasibility of using cellulase modified PDF (MPDF) as a natural functional emulsifier. The results showed that cellulase modification improved the properties of PDF and MPDF could be used to prepare stable Pickering-type emulsions. MPDF also exhibited higher antioxidant capacity compared to other emulsifiers.

Faba bean protein films reinforced with cellulose nanocrystals as edible food packaging material

Sandra Rojas-Lema et al.

Summary: In this study, transparent films were produced from faba bean protein isolate (FBP) reinforced with different cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) contents, leading to improved mechanical, thermal, barrier, and optical properties. The addition of CNCs enhanced the water resistance of the films, making them more hydrophobic. This advancement could have significant implications for the food packaging industry.

Understanding the evolution of cellulose fibers during enzyme treatment

Qijun Ding et al.

Summary: Enzyme treatment of bleached hardwood kraft pulp did not alter the crystal structure of cellulose, but disrupted hydrogen bonds, leading to increased crystal size and index. Inter-molecular hydrogen bonds were first broken, promoting fibril peeling, while properties like yield, water retention value, aspect ratio, and degree of polymerization decreased over time with enzyme treatment.

Morphological, Thermal, Mechanical, and Optical Properties of Hybrid Nanocellulose Film Containing Cellulose Nanofiber and Cellulose Nanocrystals

Can Hu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to prepare hybrid nanocellulose film with CNC and CNF by vacuum suction filtration method and evaluate its morphological structure, mechanical performance, thermal stability, and light transmittance. The content of CNF was closely related to the tensile property while CNC was beneficial to light transmittance. A combination of rod-like CNC and filamentous CNF could bring about a balance between mechanical performance, thermal stability, and light transmittance in nanocellulose film.
