The study found five central controversies, including branding, innovation, behavior, governance, and market controversies, which are closely associated with the performance of privately developed sustainable neighborhoods.

Assessing contextual factors for sustainable development: a case study of LEED-certified projects in Jordan

The study suggests that green building initiatives should focus on education and public promotion activities to overcome these barriers.

Neighborhood sustainability assessment tools: A review of success factors

Procedural successes involve the promotion of sustainable design, improvements in environmental performance, and usefulness for identifying priority development locations. Further research on other existing tools is needed to gain a better understanding of the successes.

Urban sustainability assessment: An overview and bibliometric analysis

Summary: In the late 1980s, studies on urban sustainability assessment began to emerge, with the field growing rapidly and diversifying to recognize the multi-dimensional characteristics of urban sustainability. Despite the dominance of environmental aspects, major socio-economic issues such as equity, justice, and public engagement are not well represented. Sustainable development indicators, energy, green infrastructure, water, land use, and urban design are major thematic areas, with the first three playing more important roles in structuring field development.
