Pure laparoscopic vs open right hepatectomy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: A propensity score-matched analysis

Effect of laparoscopic liver resection on postoperative delirium in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Summary: This retrospective multicenter study evaluated the impact of postoperative delirium after liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in elderly patients. Smoking history, hypertension, sleeping pill consumption, and open liver resection were identified as risk factors for postoperative delirium. The study found that the rate of other causes of death was significantly higher in the delirium group than in the no-delirium group, while the rate of death due to HCC or liver failure at 1 year was similar between the two groups. The analysis also revealed the potential benefits of laparoscopic liver resection in reducing the rate of postoperative delirium in elderly patients.

Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in an elderly population with high comorbidity: a single centre experience

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to compare the short and long-term clinical and oncological outcomes of laparoscopic surgery versus traditional surgery in elderly colorectal cancer patients. The results showed that laparoscopic surgery is a feasible treatment option even in elderly patients with high comorbidity. However, for patients with low rectal cancer, especially older patients, laparoscopic surgery may lead to reduced survival rates. Therefore, further evaluation of quality of life and consideration of alternative treatment methods are necessary for these patients.
