Ångstrom-resolution fluorescence microscopy

Susanne C. M. Reinhardt et al.

Summary: Fluorescence microscopy is a major characterization method in the life sciences, but current super-resolution techniques do not achieve Angstrom resolution. This study introduces a DNA-barcoding method that greatly improves the resolution of fluorescence microscopy, allowing for single-protein resolution in intact cells. The method also demonstrates Angstrom resolution for DNA origami.

Characterizing Intraindividual Podocyte Morphology In Vitro with Different Innovative Microscopic and Spectroscopic Techniques

Annalena Kraus et al.

Summary: This study developed a new serial and correlative approach to investigate the morphology of podocytes, using a combination of various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques on the same cell. Significant morphological alterations were observed in podocytes, which can contribute to a better understanding of their function and disease mechanisms.

Nanoparticle-based targeting of microglia improves the neural regeneration enhancing effects of immunosuppression in the zebrafish retina

Kevin Emmerich et al.

Summary: Analyzing microglial activity in a zebrafish model, the study shows the immunosuppressive effect of dexamethasone in vivo and the enhanced photoreceptor regeneration when conjugated to dendrimer nanoparticles. The study also discusses the potential mechanisms by which dexamethasone accelerates retinal regeneration and the effects of dendrimer-based targeting. Intravital time-lapse imaging revealed that post-injury dexamethasone inhibited microglia reactivity, and the dendrimer-conjugated formulation decreased toxicity and improved regeneration enhancing effects.
