Estimation of the distribution function using moving extreme and MiniMax ranked set sampling

Amer I. Al-Omari et al.

Summary: This article compares moving extreme ranked set sampling (MERSS) and MiniMax ranked set sampling (MiniMax RSS) for estimating the distribution function of a random variable. New estimators of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) are derived using the maximum likelihood estimation method, and their variances are obtained. The simulation study shows that the estimators based on MiniMax RSS perform well compared to those based on MERSS setups regardless of the ranking quality. Moreover, the proposed concomitant-based CDF estimators tend to be superior to their analogs when the ranking process is done with fairly good accuracy. The applicability of the proposed estimators is illustrated using two empirical datasets.

Elite-driven surrogate-assisted CMA-ES algorithm by improved lower confidence bound method

Zengcong Li et al.

Summary: A novel elite-driven surrogate-assisted Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy (ES-CMA-ES) algorithm based on the improved Lower Confidence Bound (ILCB) method is proposed in this paper to relieve computational burden and improve global optimizing ability. By introducing step size to control the uncertainty term of the ILCB formula adaptively, along with an efficient pre-screening strategy and a competitive chaotic operator for model management, ES-CMA-ES achieves efficient candidate point sampling, optimization convergence acceleration, and avoidance of local optima trapping. The proposed algorithm shows outstanding efficiency, global optimizing ability, and applicability compared to other black-box optimization algorithms.

Underactuated control and analysis of single blade installation using a jackup installation vessel and active tugger line force control

Zhengru Ren et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel approach for assembly and installation of single wind turbine blades. By introducing active tension control on the tugger lines, operations in higher sea states can be achieved, reducing waiting time and improving efficiency. The two-tugger-line configuration stabilizes the suspended blade during crane rotation and blade root-hub mating processes. A backstepping-like controller is designed to stabilize and track the blade. Sensitivity studies are conducted to evaluate the influence of tugger line inclinations and the impact of installed blades on the wind turbine.

Multi-strategy competitive-cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm and its application

Xiangbing Zhou et al.

Summary: In this paper, a multi-strategy competitive-cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm named MSCOEA is proposed to effectively solve multi-objective optimization problems and balance uniformity and convergence. The MSCOEA incorporates a new adaptive random competition strategy to maintain diversity in sub-populations, and a neighborhood crossover strategy to enhance local search ability. Experimental results on different benchmark functions demonstrate that the MSCOEA achieves better optimization performance and robustness compared to other algorithms, while effectively balancing convergence and uniformity. The convergence performance of the adaptive random competition and neighborhood crossover strategies is also analyzed.
