Diagenesis and controlling factors of Oligocene Huagang Formation tight sandstone reservoir in the south of Xihu sag, the East China Sea Shelf Basin

Wendao Qian et al.

Summary: Considerable efforts have been made to investigate the depositional sand quality and diagenetic processes on reservoir quality of low-permeability and tight reservoirs. This study evaluated the role of original components and diagenetic processes on reservoir quality evolution using a multi-disciplinary approach. The findings suggest that a better understanding of diagenesis is essential for the evaluation and prediction of tight sandstone reservoirs.

Seismic inverse modeling method based on generative adversarial networks

Pengfei Xie et al.

Summary: The paper introduces an inversion modeling method based on Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) to integrate geology, well data, and seismic data. The results show that the proposed method can efficiently generate inversion models that conform to well data and seismic data and closely resemble the true model.

Nonlinear seismic inversion by physics-informed Caianiello convolutional neural networks for overpressure prediction of source rocks in the offshore Xihu depression, East China

Yifan Cheng et al.

Summary: Pressure prediction in petroleum geology has traditionally been limited to moderately overpressured formations. However, in the Xihu depression, overpressures caused by natural gas generation result in high-pressure structures with thick mud-coated thin sand reservoirs, posing challenges for traditional methods. To address this, a physics-informed Caianiello convolutional neural network (CCNN) approach is proposed, which combines deterministic and statistical mechanisms for overpressure prediction. The comprehensive CCNN-based seismic inversion scheme demonstrates applicability in the Xihu depression, with the potential to improve prediction accuracy through the addition of new data.

GANSim: Conditional Facies Simulation Using an Improved Progressive Growing of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)

Suihong Song et al.

Summary: Conditional facies modeling combines geological spatial patterns with different types of observed data to build earth models for predictions of subsurface resources. Researchers have improved GANs for conditional facies simulation by introducing an extra condition-based loss function and adjusting the architecture of the generator, resulting in high-quality facies models and stronger conditioning ability of the generators.
