Cardiac glycoside neriifolin exerts anti-cancer activity in prostate cancer cells by attenuating DNA damage repair through endoplasmic reticulum stress

Wanlu Zhao et al.

Summary: Cardiac glycoside neriifolin inhibits the malignancy of prostate cancer cells by activating endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), which increases DNA damage and apoptosis. This study found that neriifolin significantly inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. Transcriptome sequence analysis shows that neriifolin induces DNA damage and double strand breaks (DSBs), and activates ERS pathway. Overall, Neriifolin may be a potential chemotherapeutic agent for prostate cancer treatment.

Molecular genotypic analysis of porcine circovirus type 2 reveals the predominance of PCV2d in Vietnam (2018-2020) and the association between PCV2h, the recombinant forms, and Vietnamese vaccines

Huong Thi Thanh Doan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of porcine circovirus ORF2 from different samples in Vietnam and identified the predominance of PCV2d genotype. A distinct PCV2h clade containing recombinant strains and local vaccines was discovered. The findings provide new information about the diversity and distribution of PCV2 genotypes in Vietnam.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus E protein inhibits type I interferon production through endoplasmic reticulum stress response (ERS)-mediated suppression of antiviral proteins translation

Liang Zheng et al.

Summary: The envelope protein E of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) plays important roles in virus budding, assembly, and virulence. Our study reveals that PEDV E protein induces endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and suppresses the production of type I interferon (IFN) by activating PERK/eIF2 alpha branch and inhibiting RIG-I signaling. This mechanism leads to the translation attenuation of antiviral proteins, resulting in the suppression of type I IFN production. The findings enhance our understanding of how PEDV evades the host innate immunity.

PDZK1 upregulates nitric oxide production through the PI3K/ERK2 pathway to inhibit porcine circovirus type 2 replication

Haochun Pan et al.

Summary: Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection enhances the expression of porcine PDZ Domain-Containing 1 (PDZK1) and overexpression of PDZK1 inhibits PCV2 replication. PDZK1 regulates PCV2 replication by controlling nitric oxide production via the PI3K/ERK2 signaling pathway. PDZK1 also modulates IL-4 expression through the PI3K/ERK2 pathway.

Survey of porcine circovirus type 2 and parvovirus in swine breeding herds of Colombia

Heinner F. Uribe-Garcia et al.

Summary: In this study, the prevalence of porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) and porcine parvovirus (PVP) in the department of Tolima, Colombia, was investigated. The results showed that PCV2d was detected in 90% of samples, while PVP was found in 2.6% of samples. Furthermore, genetic variations in the PCV2 capsid gene were identified, which may be associated with virus pathogenicity.

C1QBP inhibits proliferation of porcine circovirus type 2 by restricting nuclear import of the capsid protein

Xin Ma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that C1QBP interacts with the Cap NLS region, resulting in changes in the intracellular localisation of the Cap protein. Overexpression of C1QBP inhibits the proliferation of PCV2, possibly related to the function of C1QBP in controlling nuclear transport of Cap.

Genetic and phylogenetic analysis of porcine circovirus type 2 on Jeju Island, South Korea, 2019-2020: evidence of a novel intergenotypic recombinant

Guehwan Jang et al.

Summary: Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a widespread viral pathogen in pigs that has undergone genetic changes, with PCV2d being the dominant genotype in Korean pig populations. Coinfections of PCV2d with PCV2a or PCV2b are common in provincial pig herds. Genetic analysis revealed that one PCV2d strain, KNU-1931, had nucleotide sequence variations in the ORF1 gene compared to other PCV2d strains but exhibited a high degree of similarity to PCV2b strains due to natural recombination events.

Summary: This study analyzed lung samples from 46 batches of pigs representing 46 farms in Queensland, Australia, and found that pathogens such as Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, Streptococcus suis, and Porcine Circovirus type 2 were prevalent. The high percentage of batches infected with these pathogens suggests synergistic interactions may have resulted in pleurisy.
