Green synthesis and characterization of iron-oxide nanoparticles using Moringa oleifera: a potential protocol for use in low and middle income countries

Henry Fenekansi Kiwumulo et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs) using green biosynthetic method with Moringa oleifera leaves as reducing agent. The properties of Fe3O4-NPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, XRD, EDX and SEM. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibited UV-visible absorption peaks and spherical structure. The total synthesis time was approximately 5 hours and the average particle size was around 16 nm. These nanoparticles have potential applications in drug delivery, especially in LMICs.

Synthesis of Fe3O4 Nanoparticles with Different Shapes Through a Co-Precipitation Method and Their Application

Muneer M. Ba-Abbad et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles using co-precipitation method with ferric chloride and ferrous sulphate as starting materials. The shape and size of the nanoparticles were controlled by using different additives. The results showed that spherical nanoparticles with uniform size were obtained when ammonium hydroxide was added, while cubic nanoparticles were obtained with the addition of sodium hydroxide. Both samples exhibited ferromagnetic behavior, but cubic Fe3O4 nanoparticles had higher adsorptive behavior towards Congo red due to enhanced magnetic properties.

Summary: Research on the synthesis of water-soluble polymers has gained attention. In this study, poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (PSB) was successfully synthesized via free radical polymerization in a sonication bath, and simultaneously stabilized on the graphene surface with the addition of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). The hydrophobic nature of graphene surfaces was converted to hydrophilic nature due to the inclusion of PSB and IONPs, resulting in well-dispersed graphene composites, GPSB and GPSBI, in water.

Triple negative breast cancer: Pitfalls and progress

Paola Zagami et al.

Summary: Triple negative breast cancer is a subtype of breast cancer characterized by the lack of hormone receptors and HER2 expression. It has a higher incidence among Black and pre-menopausal women and a poorer prognosis. Currently, there is a lack of targeted therapy for TNBC, but early outcomes have improved with intensified treatments and immunotherapy. Future efforts are needed to identify targetable abnormalities, prevent immune evasion, and provide more social-economic support.
