Understanding influences on physical activity participation by older adults: A qualitative study of community-dwelling older adults from the Hertfordshire Cohort Study, UK

Summary: This qualitative study aimed to explore factors influencing the participation of community-dwelling older adults in physical activity (PA). The findings highlighted the role of modifiable factors, particularly psychological factors (such as self-efficacy, motivation, outcome expectancy) and social factors (such as social support and social engagement). These factors not only influenced PA participation but also mediated the effect of other non-modifiable factors on engagement with PA in later life. The study suggests that interventions should focus on enhancing psychological and social factors to promote PA participation in older adults.

Factors associated with self-care behavior in patients with pre-dialysis or dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics, physiological indices, and health literacy affecting self-care behavior in patients with chronic kidney disease in South Korea. The results showed significant differences in self-care behavior based on age, cohabitation status, employment, smoking status, dialysis, comorbidities, and certain physiological indices. Factors such as not currently working, being a non-smoker, having end-stage kidney disease, and a positive response to health literacy significantly affected self-care behavior.

Factors associated with self-care behaviours among Koreans with heart failure

Summary: This study identified factors associated with subdimensions of self-care behaviors in South Korean patients with heart failure. Younger age, lack of heart failure education, poor physical function, poor sleep quality, and lower self-care confidence were significantly related to different subdimensions of self-care behaviors. Tailored interventions and educational materials based on unique self-care behavior patterns are needed for these patients.

Impact of patient knowledge on hypertension treatment adherence and efficacy: A single-centre study in Poland

Summary: This study evaluated the knowledge of 488 patients with arterial hypertension on therapeutic options, prophylaxis, and complications of the disease. Results showed that more than half of the patients had good knowledge, which significantly correlated with treatment efficacy, especially in terms of medical care location and education level. Good knowledge was associated with controlled blood pressure, medication adherence, and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
