Air-Degradation Mechanisms in Mixed Lead-Tin Halide Perovskites for Solar Cells

Vincent J-Y Lim et al.

Summary: Mixed lead-tin halide perovskites are suitable for the bottom subcell of all-perovskite tandem photovoltaic devices due to the bandgap-bowing effect. However, these materials degrade in ambient air, which negatively impacts their optoelectronic properties. This study unravels the degradation mechanisms of APb(x)Sn(1-x)I(3) perovskites and highlights the need for passivation strategies tailored specifically to mixed lead-tin iodide perovskites.

Jaemin Park et al.

Summary: In this study, high-rate H-2 generation using the sulfite oxidation reaction (SOR) was demonstrated as an alternative to the oxygen evolution reaction for solar H-2 production. The use of cost-effective molybdenum phosphide electrocatalyst as a bifunctional catalyst in an alkaline electrolyte resulted in remarkable photocurrent density. The SOR not only enhances photocurrent, but also reduces the overall cost of solar H-2 production by eliminating the need for expensive gas separation membranes.
